Fact: Over 100 people contributed to William's work, though he rejected many African's help because of their "upper class" attitudes towards "common people" (Williams).

"Research in African History is more tedious, laborious and time consuming than that in other fields, because to develop the "underdeveloped" history of the Blacks, one has to explore the most unlikely sources for bits and pieces by which HOPEFULLY a bit of history can be put together" (Williams 32).

Names referred specifically to BLACK PEOPLE throughout the ancient world:

  • "African" and "Ethiopian" most common

  • Thebans

  • Libyans

  • Thinites

  • Nubians

  • Cushites

  • Memphites

  • Numidians, etc.

There were MANY ROADBLOCKS in Williams research, one being identifying the names of blacks who were disguised as Caucasian people for centuries, listed above.

Another roadblock was that Africans with white blood identified themselves as Caucasian and NOT BLACK (so contrary to what we would normally believe) and if any of these mixed people were Pro-black or Anti-white they were ridiculed and called "half breeds" (Ouch!)

A third roadblock in uncovering Egyptian/Black history was that blacks were forced to replace their names with Asian ("white") and European names. This made identification much more tedious, if even possible.

Nonetheless, Williams traveled and sought Africa, finding that Northern and Southern Africa were of two completely different trends politically and socially.

Northern Africa was Ethiopia and Nubia (now the Sudan), ruled by mixed people who considered themselves AFRICAN but feel superior to black skinned or "Bantu" people b/c they were mixed and discriminated against them just as whites did. (Talk about "light skin tendencies," right?

Southern Africa was where whites resided and they were EXTREMELY hostile towards blacks. They were so harsh that blacks where in a state of fear at all times, and were always judged as a threat to society. (Sounds familiar..)

African = Member of the black race.

In ancient times "African" and "Ethiopian" both meant black, until Caucasians found it necessary to claim land of the Blacks as their own land and reorder history.
