1. LEAVE WALMART ALONE!
I Cant say enough how much of a finesse Walmart can be! When I began my journey into the super health freak lifestyle back in September of 2016, I realized that I was spending way more on NON organic products at Walmart than I was at the local Whole Foods, Albertsons, and even Winn Dixie! Of course when you begin to eat healthy, its going to be more costly than junk food. Health is WEALTH. You invest into your body and it will show its appreciation later! But please please please. Leave Walmart to the junkies unless absolutely necessary and find a nice grocery store with organic or fresh produce and meat products!
2. Start slow...
Changing your diet is a challenge. You will slip up more often than not if you try to cut out junk food cold turkey. When you begin to transition, start by eliminating the worst parts of your diet and substituting them with healthy alternatives bit by bit! Eventually, you will have an entirely healthy diet, and have erased all trails of junk from around you! TAKE YOUR TIME. This is a lifestyle change, and slow/steady always wins the race. It'll also keep you from dropping big bank on your food without full confidence that you'll stick to this transition!
3. Drink Water!
You're probably wondering..how will water save me money? Welp, easily put...water fills you up! Drink a glass before you eat and some more between bites. You'll find that 1. You'll get fuller faster. 2. Your portions will become smaller. 3. You are eating LESS of your groceries and avoid over eating by retaining that water! and 4. Your hair and skin will love all of the water intake, and you will feel 100000x better.
Save money. Live better. Drink H20.
4. Plan ahead!
When it comes to changing your diet, you can't just expect it all to come at once. You need a game plan! Map out what foods you want to try, and attempt to plan out your meals for at least one full week. This will save you time in the grocery store, and time over the stove when it comes to preparing your meals.
5. Find your fix.
Simply put. Find what you like and eliminate what you don't. If something in your diet isn't working well with your taste buds...get rid of it! Forcing yourself to eat healthy foods is a huge no no. It takes the enjoyment away from eating right, when there are soooo many healthy options to choose from other than the ONE you don't do well with (Brussels Sprouts and I will never be friends).. and that is A-OK!
6. Break your meals up.
Eating a big breakfast, lunch and dinner is fine.. but not very helpful when trying to shed weight or speed your metabolism. Eating 5-6 smaller portions throughout the day help keep your energy at an all time high and keep you full while increasing your metabolism's speed!
7. Meal Prep!
This comes with planning your meals ahead! Meal prepping is a great way to start making better eating habits, so that you're in the habit of eating your meals daily and you don't have to whip them up every night! If you're not trying to break your piggy bank, set a fixed budget for groceries every week (whether it be 20$ or 100$) and find some meal prep recipes that fit your budget!
8. Buddy Up
If you want to save money while eating healthier, find a friend and get groceries together! You can borrow eggs, she can borrow some peanut butter... while you both are improving your diets!
9. Meal replacement shakes
Meal replacement shakes are great fillers for when your money is low and you cant afford to make a full meal. They contain protein, vitamins and minerals to keep you going through the day.
10. Have fun.
Eating healthy isn't the cheapest way to live.. but the key is investing into yourself. The same way you wouldn't put regular gas in a Lamborghini, you shouldn't put junk foods in your body! It's always good to experiment and try new things (that's the fun of exploring healthy alternatives), but once you find what you enjoy eating and what works best for you and your body, stick to it.
