My name is Tatum, aka Tatum The Naturaleza, and I’m the tincture & tonic making, aloe vera & agave plant growing down to earth blogger who wants you to live your BEST HOLISTIC life, be comfortable in your skin, inspire & motivate you to start taking responsibility for your health, and make your life journey to optimal health a top priority. I started my journey at the age of 17 and it has been so amazing thus far. My inner wellness is at an all-time high. Sharing my health & wellness journey, spreading good energy, and being my authentic + organic self is a passion of mine. Natural Proverbz is a reflection of me, my beliefs, hobbies, interests, and values. I do a plethora of cool, dope everyday healthy lifestyle things that are too good to keep to myself and I wanted to create a platform, so I could share it with everyone. Any and everything that I share will always have your spiritual, emotional, physical health and overall well-being in mind. My blog has every intention to feed your soul.
My blog was built on the basis of a Greek phrase, “Meraki”. This is a word that modern Greeks often use to describe something with soul, creativity, or love — when you put “something of yourself” into what you’re doing, whatever it may be. It was also built on the basis of holistic living. Holistic health takes into consideration the whole person -- body, mind, spirit, and emotions -- in the quest for optimal health and wellness.
I was inspired to start this blog for several reasons. The biggest reason being that I wanted to expose as many people as I can to a lifestyle that is fulfilling in so many ways. When you’re mental, physical, and spiritual health are all happy and in tune with one another, your life changes for the better and you won’t ever want to live it any other way. Every day I wake up more inspired and motivated than I was the day before to continue my own journey, and to help others along their health + life journey.
Another reason I decided to create this platform was to share my natural hair & skin journey. I make all my own skin & hair products and they both have flourished IMMENSELY in every way possible. I was able to grow my hair down to my waist, and my skin stays clear, radiant, glowing, and healthy. For the longest I never shared with anyone what I was doing, not because I wanted to keep it all to myself, but because I really didn’t think anyone would be interested. But one day I decided to share a few DIY skin & hair recipes, healthy foods, and other holistic lifestyle habits on Instagram and my messages BLEW. UP. Literally everyone wanted to know what I was doing, and how they could do the same. I was shocked. Obviously with all the attention my lifestyle habits were getting, it turned into me doing Natural Proverbz. I didn’t get to start this blog from the very beginning of my health journey, but I don’t think I could have started this blog at a better time. More and more people seem to be more concerned with their health now and that is what keeps me going.
But now, let’s briefly start from the beginning. When I first went away to college, I felt that my lifestyle needed a change. I wasn’t super unhealthy, but I felt that I could be doing way better than what I was. My family history consists of so many diseases, illnesses, and mental health disorders and I did not want that for myself. I constantly told myself that I was going to be better and expose my friends and loved ones to better. & that’s exactly what I did. Of course, I started off small, but those small lifestyle changes turned into a habit, which then turned into a lifestyle. Holistic living truly has been a blessing to me. I have gained a much happier, healthier, and fulfilling lifestyle. I have also gained a healthier body, happier spirit, a content soul, poppin skin, and lustrous hair okurrrrrrt. My outer self reflects my inner self, and I treats her right. It shows. I achieve this not only with self-care, DIY skin & hair recipes, but with the way I choose to fuel my body. It is truly one of the most important aspects of a healthy lifestyle.
Healthy, and intuitive eating is a HUGE part of my life. Intuitive eating is a non-diet approach to health and wellness that helps you tune into your body. It doesn’t necessarily subscribe to a particular pattern/diet but intended to suit a healthy lifestyle. I’ve been on a plant-based journey for a few years now. I have become very critical with the products I use, and for good reason. All my products are organic and non-toxic. I made this change because I want to be the healthiest me I can be. So, I made the commitment to do just that. The best advice I can give to you is listen to your body and eat in a way that makes you happy. I am super deep in the health game, but I don’t restrict or deprive myself. However, I will always make the best conscious decision I can to benefit, and not jeopardize my health. I remained successful from the very beginning by starting small and continuing to make progressions along the way. Starting small is KEY, don’t overwhelm yourself. Go to a juice bar, go get a smoothie, go dairy free for a day or two, or a month, or forever, get a grilled chicken sandwich instead of a burger, make a healthy version of your fave ‘not so healthy’ meal. Just begin to make those conscious decisions and it’ll stick. DO NOT count calories, restrict yourself or live off strict eating habits. Make your healthy lifestyle simple, enjoyable and maintainable.
One thing I do find challenging in this journey, and something that I think everyone in their early adult years face, is trying to set the tone for the rest of my life and being busy doing so. Being busy can wreak havoc on your life if you let it. I’m always extremely busy but I don’t let my heavy work load be an excuse to practice poor eating habits, slack on my skin care routine, neglect my self-care routine, and cause me to be restless. My mental and physical health would be in shambles. You can’t be your best self and live your best life when you’re stressed, unhappy, and tired. Always make the conscious decision to listen to your soul, rest when needed, and recharge.
Making the transition to a holistic lifestyle is not a change that can be made overnight, but it is one that can be made with time. All I ask is that you make yourself a priority in whatever journey you decide to embark on. Don’t let anyone/anything cease you from becoming a better you. My mindset, and outlook on life/everyday things continuously grows just from the constant researching of holistic lifestyle practices. My energy became strongly positive. This lifestyle gave me redemption internally and externally. I’m very grateful that I made this transition for myself. It’s the best thing I could have ever done. Getting my friends, family, and even strangers on board is the biggest reward from all of this. Having people around me that support me and bring out the best of me has been a blessing.
