5 Ingredients You Should Be Adding To Your Shampoo

I thought I would take some time to point out a few of my favorite natural add ins that you can add into your regular shampoo routine. As I've stated in my last post, you should limit your shampoo sessions to once or twice weekly so that your hair can hold onto some of its natural moisture! My favorite inexpensive store bought shampoo would have to be Maui Moisture Heal & Hydrate + Shea Butter Shampoo, and though I have multiple shampoos and don't need to add much to the already nutrient loaded concoction, the following add ins have helped me to achieve the long healthy locs that I've been striving to achieve!

ALOE VERA

I think I'm a bit obsessed with aloe vera if i'm being honest, but can you blame me? It is soooooooo good for EVERYTHING! Your hair, your skin, bug bites, dog mom duties, the whole 9. I purchase a huge gallon from the local Drug Emporium in Lafayette, LA for about 6$ (a come up lol). Aloe moisturizes and fully hydrates your hair, which is a great add in for shampoo considering the de-moisturizing effects shampoo tends to have.

ESSENTIAL OILS

Another obsession haha; essential oils are bomb. My favorite add ins are tea tree, rosemary, peppermint and lavender to keep things short and sweet.

Tea tree oil is great for my oily hair, dandruff hair friends. It gets rid of the dry dead cells on your scalp, and serves as an antibacterial (if you have kids with lice issues...here's a great oil for them).

Rosemary stimulates hair growth. It's one of the best essential oils for this purpose, and I kinda overdo it every time when it comes to adding this to my products (ALL OF THEM).

Peppermint oil stimulates blood flow and fast growth by massaging those nutrients into the scalp. It also smells amazing, which is always a plus.

Lavender as everyone knows is a soothing oil and especially great for dry hair. It also promotes growth and prevents loss.

You can purchase a full set of your own essential oils for $10 here

ACV

Apple Cider Vinegar is good for clarifying your scalp and removing dandruff! It's a 100% natural version of what most stores call Head and Shoulders, and also promotes growth while removing all of the toxins from your head! A GREAT ADD IN, but can further dry your hair so always follow up with conditioner or a good leave in.

HONEY

Honey is one of my fave natural products I use generally speaking, but when it comes to adding it to your shampoo, I find that my hair (and especially those who have even tighter curls that I do) retains moisture a lot better. My hair has grown to be a lot stronger; the only downside is honey isn't always very cheap. You can get a large bottle of it for around 9$ at a TJ Maxx or Marshall and it will last you a while! Manuka honey is especially good for strengthening your hair, but any ole honey will do the trick.

CASTOR OIL

This oil is a GROWTH OIL do you hear me!?!?! Castor stimulates your follicles to tell eachother "Aye man let's get it poppin we got hair to grow okuuuuuuurt?" Add this to your shampoo and your shampoo will almost not even feel like shampoo anymore. Not kidding.

You can purchase Castor oil online for around $6 by clicking here

If you choose any or ALL of the following add ins, I can promise you will notice a difference in the hold up of your hair, whether its curly, wavy, straight, kinky, what have you. Remember conditioning after shampoo sessions is law. Don't forget it! Your hair will still need that conditioning time, but having a powerful shampoo made up of these add ins will have your hair screaming "THANK YOU!"

Xoxo,

Dom
