How To Eat Your Way To Healthier Hair and Skin

I know what you're thinking. "Dom's about to tell us how to eat our carrots and green beans like our parent's used to tell us when we were younger, blah blah blah." The answer is yes, you should eat your carrots and green beans, but no; I'm here to give you OPTIONS huntyyyyyy.

Eating healthy is beneficial in more ways than just your inner organs/body. Throwing out the processed, sodium overloaded, fatty, sugar infested foods for healthier alternatives can actually aid in having healthy skin and hair! A huge factor in how I got my hair to grow an estimated 7 or 8 inches in the last year has been 80% diet. The healthy foods you eat, depending on what you're eating, will make your skin glowy and clear and your hair long, shiny, and strong in a matter of just ONE MONTH if you really stick to substituting. O N E M O N T H ! Just 1. It is sooooooo crazy how food can be the death of us, or for the best of us. You think more clearly, your skin literally feels like butter, your hair is soft and shining to the hair gods. Gahhhhh *feels self slipping away into healthy guru wonderland* hahaha. I absolutely love the changes I've seen inside and out by switching to a healthier lifestyle, and i'm going to leave a list of foods you can implement into your diet to get the healthy hair and skin you have always wanted!

  • Bananas, B-a-n-a-n-a-s! Being that they are high in folates (folic acid), they are a major contributor to hair and skin health and help with the division of dead skin cells.

  • Bell Peppers are filled with vitamin A, which contribute to glowy skin!

  • Avocado (personal fave) is a fatty fruit that is almost 75% water and filled with natural oils that help moisturize the skin and slings alllllll dem nutrients to your hair follicles to grow healthy shiny locs.

  • Chia seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, protein and fiber. This makes them great for stimulating hair strength and beautiful skin.

  • Kale is a superfood packed with antioxidants, vitamins A, C, and K which fight against skin damaging free radicals and help to reduce dark circles.

  • Blueberry, Oranges, Kiwi, and Papaya are some well known anti aging super FRUITS.

  • Pineapple juice is a good source of bromelain enzymes (anti-inflammatory) which help treat acne and heal other skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis.

  • Greek Yogurt is filled with protein and natural lactic acids, leaving your hair strong while stripping away dead follicle cells to promote growth.

  • Eggs possess high protein and biotin, which stimulates growth and strength in hair and flourishing skin

  • Salmon is an EXCELLENT source of food for hair growth, as it is a fatty fish and excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids (hence why people take fish oil vitamins)

  • Sweet potatoes, which I have just recently grown to enjoy though most people love them, contain beta-carotene. The body converts this compound into vitamin A which enhances the health of your hair.

In all honesty, this list is endless. Other foods that help with hair and skin health include spinach, oats, nuts, flaxseed, hemp seed, lentils, pumpkin, coconuts, strawberries, and more to name; you just have to put your foot forward and decide to make the healthier switch! Lacking in any of the necessary vitamins, protein, biotin, or fatty acids can hinder your hair and skin from flourishing tremendously. While people get the misconception that any deficit should be fixed with vitamins and supplements, all you really need to do is EAT your way to healthier hair and skin and drink plenty plenty water. It's almost like feeding and watering a plant but you're the plant that's waiting to sprout and flourish. It's really that simple, I promise.
