Issa Bae Box!!!

So it's Valentines Day EVE... and I figured there would be no greater way to bring in my new blog than to give you guys a step by step on how I created my boyfriend's "bae box!"

Now, for those who don't know, yes I have a bf (sorry fellas) & YES... I love all things crafty and sentimental! This box in particular took a month to finish (1. Because I'm always preoccupied with extracurricular activities & 2. I wanted to do it little by little so that it wouldn't look or sound like it was just thrown together.) I hope my idea can help a few of you surprise your sweetheart with something thoughtful! Xoxo

STEP ONE: Find your box.

This is the most vital part of your bae box (for obvious reasons)

Here you can do 1 of 2 things.

1. Go to your local craft store and purchase an unfinished, wooden hinged box and design it completely on your own (how sentimental and cute is that?!) The down side to this cute and thought out option is that it can be a bit messy, tedious and take a lot longer.

2. Purchase an already stained hinged trunk! (Also can be found at any local craft store or store that sells antique/furniture) The down side to this rustic/antiquey cute idea is that it can be a bit expensive depending on where you find one and how large it is.

The picture shown were the two that I found at Hobby Lobby.

The size of the box is up to you! I personally chose the bottom, larger finished trunk because I wanted to put a variety of items within it, where as the more shallow box wouldn't fit the amount of stuff I filled mine with.

STEP TWO: Get your decorating supplies!

This is the fun part! Picking out the cute little things to fit in your box!

Now...the biggest part of a bae box includes the handwritten letters (we'll get to those shortly)

but you want to find other items your "person" would love, along with markers, stickers, glitter or whatever else you need for your letters!

(I also purchased burlap and red spray paint, just to give the box some flavaaaaaaaaaaaaaa)

So, get to plotting on what your man/woman likes and rack up!

STEP THREE: Design your box

No picture for this, because I want you to see it all put together,

but for this you paint your box, ba-dazzle your box, do WHATEVER your heart desires to your box!

I actually found myself attempting to do a press on heart (with stamp seen above) and failed miserably, where I then decided to paint the top interior of my trunk solid red. (Came out waaaaay better than a basic heart).

STEP FOUR: The letters

Here is where you get creative....purchase a pack of letters and some printer paper, grab your markers and go nutts!

These are just a few of the many letters I wrote, some of them are gag letters (the poop one for sure) and others include little things aside from notes, such as gift cards, photos of me and my "person" and I even bought a small sealable package and put medicine and skin care in it for when bae feels sickly. So, get as inventive as you desire with this and I promise he/she will thank you later. :)

STEP FIVE: Put it all together!

Once you have your box painted, your letters finished and your box fillers ready to be filled, put your bae box together, and store it in a safe place until youre ready to give it to that special person.

My box included:

20+ letters (Walmart)

box of chocolates (Target)

therapeutic bath salts (Whole foods)

starburst and jolly ranchers (he loves both) (Walmart)

a picture frame with our picture included & a border around it (where I hand wrote a long, sweet, thorough valentines day message) (Hobby Lobby)

a small package for when he feels sick (including diff medicines, chapstick, facials for men, cough drops, etc) (Walmart)

black soap (he loves) (Walmart)

and so.much.love.

This project can cost anywhere from $30-200+ depending on how in depth and creative you get with it.

(I spent a nice bit because I'm always sooooo extra) but the more you put into a bae box, the more bae will appreciate it!

I hope this DIY gave you some ideas. Get creative and make your person a bae box this Valentines Day!

XOXO
